Chamber awards handed out at the 2008 Annual Banquet were
"Business of the Year,"
U. S. Tax Service, Norma Anthis owner; "Citizen of the Year," Lorene
Clute;
"Special recognition for many years of service," Roland and Bobbie
Neuse;
and "Youth of the Year," Michael White.
Five presented awards at 2008 Annual Banquet

"When change happens faster on the outside than the inside, the end
is insight," said Tom Wilkinson, guest speaker for the 2008 Jewett
Chamber Banquet. "When we fail to keep pace with change, we get left
behind," he continued. Wilkinson encouraged chamber members to continue
to move forward and look to the future of Jewett as it continues to
grow. Wilkinson discussed the need for air service in Leon County, the
widening of Hwy. 79, and the future of FutureGen.
With over 150 in attendance, the banquet was well attended Thursday
night, March 6. Chamber President Kim Pritchard welcomed attendees,
introduced special guests including; City of Jewett Mayor Judi
Kirkpatrick, Precinct #3Commissioner Ray Gaskin, Marquez Area Chamber
ofCommerce representative Jimmy Hill, Brazos Valley Arts Council member
Patrick Fisher and Tom Wilkinson from the Brazos Valley Council of
Governments.
Casey Smith, a Leon High School senior, provided musical entertainment
during a wonderful meal catered by Hometown Pizza.
After dinner, awards were presented. The Jewett EE Club won the best
decorated table. Michael White was chosen as Student of the Year.
Citizen of the Year went to Ms. Lorene Clute. U.S. Tax Service, owned by
Norma Anthis, was awarded the Business of the Year. The final award
given was to Roland and Bobbie Neuse frothier many years of service to
the Jewett area. Both Roland and Bobbie owned businesses in Jewett for
many years and have recently sold them and relocated in the
Bryan/College Station area. Twenty lucky attendees won door prizes
donated by several local businesses.
Kim Pritchard presented the Chambers 2008 Program of Work which includes
plans to establish several committees that are focused on
transportation, tourism, Jewett green, FutureGen, medical services,
communications, personnel, and the civic center.

Home and Garden Show

The ninth annual Jewett Home and Garden Show is quickly
approaching. The Jewett Area Chamber of Commerce is working to make this
year's event the best ever. Mark your calendar for April 12, and plan
now to spend time browsing through the many vendor's booths. The Jewett
Home and Garden Show will be held at the Jewett Civic Center from 9 a.m.
to 5 p.m. Do you need a pool or spa before summer hits? Do you need to
organize your home, but have run out of room for all your stuff? Morgan
Buildings and Spas will be on hand to help get you organized with a new
storage building or cool you off this summer with a new pool or spa.
How does a new tractor sound? Normangee Tractor plans to have several new
models on hand for you to choose from.
Do you need a new swing for your porch? Check out the display of handmade
wooden furniture by Fambrough's This and That.
Mother and Kids will be at the event, offering a variety of outdoor
decor, gardening decor and Circle E Candles. Gena's Gifts Galore will
have western crads fro sales and Guynes Photography will be on hand.
Many other organizations and businesses will be at the event, offering a
wide variety of goods and services.
Booths are still available, but are going fast. If you want to publicize
your business or have items to sell, a booth at the Jewett Home and
Garden Show is just what you need. To check on booth rental please

Regular concession stand food: hot dogs, nachos, popcorn, etc. will be
available along with a stuffed potato lunch at the concession stand. All
proceeds from the concession stand will go to Relay For Life of Leon
County.
This year the Jewett Area Chamber of Commerce is giving away a $1,000 and
a $500 Visa Gift Card. Tickets for the giveaway may be picked up at the
Chamber office for a donation of $2. Chamber board members also have
tickets available. Tickets will be available at the Jewett Home and
Garden Show.
